Chapter One             Mary Hickey Meets Hector

Three young Hickey brothers are caught stealing garden gnomes. They live in a ‘small town’ of 70,000 in Ontario and their mother is grateful that the police kept the story out of the paper the next day. Hector Grodstooth, a gnome acting as the Ambassador of the Little People, arrives at the Hickey residence to announce that Faerykind has decided to rekindle their friendship with the people of Earth. Before launching the Rekindlement Plan, Hector requests that the Hickey family help retrieve their 27 gnomes out of the police compound. Mary’s husband is overseas on tour with his rockband and their oldest child, daughter Ruby, has stayed overnight at her friends, but Mary and her three young sons enjoy a Little People adventure of mythical proportions. Ambassador Hector takes the family to rent a van and then to the police station and back to the Hickey home with all of their new gnome friends. The chapter ends with the Ambassador of the Little People taking the Hickeys on a tour of their transformed household, much to the delight of Mary and boys.

Chapter Two                           Wishing Well

Hector throws a gnome tea party to meet the gnomes and to present the Hickey family with their own Wishing Well. The Hickey father, Royal, arrives via Mary’s wish. Their daughter, Ruby, arrives as the King and Queen of Faery join the party. The rules of the Wishing Well and the King’s desire to rekindle the relationship with humanity are discussed over tea in the cozy, newly dubbed ‘Mary’s Realm’.

Chapter Three  The King and Queen of Faery

King Oberon awaits Queen Titiana in the den at their favourite home, Castle Lyonstyme, and memories of his life with Titiana flood his mind. The year is 1550 and world troubles have come knocking. The Queen tries to convince Oberon to listen to the prophets and help the human race. The chapter gives a quick review of the history of the Faery Folk and the age old battle of the Tuatha Dé Danann (TOO-ha-JAY DAN-uhn) against the Formorians. Handmaiden Bezz brings refreshments and gets news that she will be travelling with a baby and nursemaid to the New World on special assignment for the King and Queen.

Chapter Four      1550AD: Arrival at the Land of Friendship

The chapter begins with handmaiden Bezz thinking back on the voyage across the ocean and Nostradame’s prophecies. She, baby Hector and nursemaid Myrgth are greeted by Chief Kaqtukwow, (Kak-Tuk-Wo), his warrior Lkimu (Kee-Moo)and a welcoming party. Kaq tells Mi’kmaq (MICK-MACK) history and their worldview and introduces his family: Naki, his wife; their three daughters and her father and the tribal shaman, Shadeenok. At Bezz’ request, Myrgth (MIRG-TH) shares a rumour they’ve heard about Little People in the Land of Friendship and Kaq confirms that a western delegation is enroute to meet them.

Chapter Five         1550 AD:  The Vision of the Three Crosses

Myrgth and Bezz get called back to Kaq’s wigwam because the Delegation of Seven, the Little People of the Kawarthas, is arriving. Kaq shares L’nuk visions, symbols and prophecies with Bezz. Shadeenok the Shaman shares his interpretations of the same. Mi’kmaq lore and spirituality includes references to the Little People and the human race. The Delegation of Seven arrives at the end of the chapter.

Chapter Six              1550 AD:      Trip to Misty Eyed Falls

A contingent journeys to the sacred Falls for a special ceremony. Omisseh, the Leader of the Little People of the Kawarthas, and Bezz stay at the Falls to talk. Kaq had Numi, the tribal carver, carve a symbol after their celebration to remember the day celebrating the alliance of the three crosses. Omisseh offers a ruby, the red ring of creation to Shadeenok, with a cryptic message that the two of them are the door between worlds and that the ring is a key that will play a role in the future. After the sweetgrass ceremony, Numi (NOO-ME) carves while Bezz and Omisseh go down a hole in the rockface to the land of the Trickster Little People. After Om warns Bezz about the Trickster race, he leads Bezz through a secret passage behind the Falls.

Chapter Seven 1550 AD: The Gifts from the Four Directions

Bezz and Omisseh are in The Land That Has No Time behind the Falls and Om shares information regarding the changing world and faery mounds. Meanwhile, back at the wigwam, Lkimu and Myrgth are falling in love and Myrgth shares Faery history.

Chapter Eight                      Old Mother Shipton’s Buried Treasure

Eleven year old Lucy and her mother Joan Kelly live a few doors down from the Hickey home. Lucy and the Hickey boys dig up a buried treasure meant for Lucy’s eyes only: two books, a satchel and a crystal wand. The Book of Spells and the diary were buried by Lucy’s ancestor, Ursula Shipton. The boys run home, afraid, and Lucy shares everything with her mother except the diary. The mother and daughter discover a prophecy scroll hidden in the Book of Spells and are studying it when there is a knock at their front door. Enter Ambassador Hector and his introduction to the Kelly family. Hector takes the Kelly girls to The Hall of Fame, a mystical place where all of time is recorded and continually played out like movies on huge stone ovals. Hector teaches the girls how to tap into history and they watch scenes of  Mother Shipton’s life, learning about their ancestor firsthand.

Chapter Nine                        Revisiting The Halls of Fame

Hector is babysitting Lucy and explains how the Wishing Well works and how Lucy is more powerful than she understands. Lucy begs Hector to take her to the Hall of Fame again and Hector does, knowing that this venture is against the wishes of her mother Joan. Hector shows Lucy the Northern Lights and tells Lucy a story about her Grandma and his Grandma being friends. Lucy disappears into an oval, something Hector has never seen in his hundreds of years of visits. The frantic Hector notices Royal Hickey singing on the next oval and understands that there is no such thing as coincidence and is relieved when the song is about ‘coming home’. When Hector and Lucy return home, Lucy says she has to write down her experiences immediately and runs up to her room. Hector, relieved about Lucy, looks out the window and sees Angus and Tom Hickey, with no guardian gnomes, riding their bikes near the lake. Hector tells Lucy he’s going out for a walk and heads over to the lake, looking for Snelton, the gnome in charge. While Hector is having words with Snelton, he sees the nosey neighbour Mrs. Cravitz and then Snelton tells him Lucy has taken off on her bike, headed for downtown. The chapter ends with Hector pursuing Lucy.

Chapter Ten                               The Seven  Ls Message

Hector stops Lucy on her bike journey. She tells him she’s going to the craft store and explains how her guardian gnome Goddo always let her go by herself. While they are arguing, a young lad watches and strikes up a conversation with Lucy. He asks about her ‘doll’ and an agitated Hector grows instantly to six feet tall and disappears. John tells Lucy he’s visiting his Grandma for the summer, so Lucy promises she’ll bring some friends over to meet him the next day. She goes on to the craft store to buy a special book to write her prophecies in. She learns that the owner, Mrs. Hennessey can talk inside her head, too. She rushes home and Mrs. Cravitz comes at the same time to meet Hector and tell them that the annual neighbourhood street barbeque will be held a week Saturday. Lucy runs upstairs and writes her ‘Prophecy by Lucy’ and rejoins Hector and Mrs. Cravitz to hear the end of the story of her husband, Frank.

Chapter Eleven                         Past, Present and Future Meet

Mary Hickey arrives home to learn about the bikes at the lake incident and is reprimanding her boys when Royal and Ruby appear. Ruby had fetched Royal through the Wishing Well because of a different incident involving the Wishing Well. Snelton the gnome is explaining about the Well and The Deeps of the castle of the King and Queen of Faery. Mary and Royal call Hector. Everyone safely back in the living room, including Snelton’s faery friend, Trinity, who had come to help, a discussion ensues about Formorians and Faeries. When Hector finishes his tale, Lucy Kelly enters and tells everyone about their new neighbour, John, whom Hector wants to visit immediately. Hector and Lucy Kelly visit John and his Grandmother Mickey. Hector catches Mickey up on what is going on in the world while a terrible accident happens on the front porch. John is struck by a car and has a grave headwound and Lucy and Mickey work on him until the ambulance arrives. Lucy feels her healing powers.

Chapter Twelve                         The Deeps

The King of Faery confronts his wife and Hector about the incident in The Deeps. Mariam serves tea and tells of her young brother’s involvement, to Hector’s astonishment. The King calls in Trinity and everyone learns about the baby dragons and the culprits involved: Trinity heard a scream from her vantage point in the Queen’s back gardren and went to investigate. She found two young lads in a vast underground chamber, surrounded by seven baby dragons. Trinity explained to the King that she then enjoyed a few moments of flying the lads around and giving them snacks to feed the  happy dragon babies. She explained that she made herself invisible by using her invisibility cloak as soon as she heard the kitchen door creak. At that same moment, she saw Rungdelf grab the one boy and Hector appear and take the other lad.

Chapter Thirteen                         The Empress

Mary Hickey sits in her garden, writing and thinking in the early morning hours of the day of the annual street barbecue. Mary thinks about all the recent events and her husband, Royal, joins her and they sit for hours talking. As their children wake up, Mary and Royal get back into the swing of the day, preparing for the big barbecue. The kids do breakfast and chores and go off to collect Lucy Kelly and go to the movies. The history of the annual barbecue is explained as well as the fact that Ambassador Hector has met with some neighbours explaining about the Rekindlement Plan. Meanwhile, at Lucy Kelly’s house, Lucy has nightmares.

Chapter Fourteen                     The Day of the Barbecue

In their home, Hector prepares Mary and Royal for the press conference and the flowers arrive. Hector gives the Hickey’s each a present, a talisman, from the King and Queen of Faery. He explains his worldview and how it might help them. After the gifts have been bestowed, Hector gives them both copies of the press release about the Rekindlement Plan and studies with them and presents them with bound notes of their lesson. They all get ready for the press conference to be held in the backyard at the Cravitz residence and walk over with Joan Kelly, with Hector garnering much attention along the way. Hector is pleased with the press conference until it ends with an explosion. The explosion turns out to be a gas barbecue gone and Hector decides to focus on keeping the peace until the Royal entourage arrives later that evening. On his way to see the children at the lake with Mary and Joan, a scream at the Kelly’s residence produces a young girl with the ancient book in Lucy’s vision.

Chapter Fifteen             Fireworks

Mother Shipton, aka Ursula returns to Armour Street and meets a group of Formorians and disappears. Hector is on the gazebo while Ursula loses her battle and the King and Queen call for him. The King explains Formorian legends and the trio travel to the gazebo at 10:00 pm to seal the rift between worlds caused by Ursula’s entry into the earthen realm. Meanwhile, the King, Queen and Hector gather in the Hickey backyard and call in the troops to go over strategy to ensure that no other Formorians will interrupt the evening’s agenda. The King and Queen discuss the usefulness of the baby dragons in their strategy. The history of dragonkind and Rungdelf’s role as dragon master comes to light. After security is established, the party goes on and the King and Queen arrive as scheduled.

Chapter Sixteen                        The Aftermath

Lucy sleeps in and Hector arrives before she wakes. Lucy thinks back to the arrival of the Queen and King the night before, and opens her drawer to see the tiny harp gifted to her. She remembers the evening as a night of mythical proportions: after Queen Titiana and King Oberon are welcomed by the Mayor and his entourage, Titiana thanks all and announces the arrival of the faery gifts. With an explosion of colour overhead, hundreds of faeries circle the crowd and drop boxes and bags of all sizes attached to parachutes and parasols. Meanwhile, at the Hickey residence the morning after, Royal and Mary discuss their views of the Little People  and their gifts, desktop versions of their pyramid-in-a-sphere necklaces. Mary tells Royal about her dream of Lead Trooper Mack leading them to the Sphinx. Lucy presents Hector with a ruby stone she found concealed in a secret compartment in the Ursula treasure box. Hector calls over John and Mickey and reveals that the ruby stone is a seer stone from the Mi’kmaq race and it has been sent to them to enable them to read the Peace Book. The chapter ends as the four people and the Ambassador of the Little People watch the Peace Book come to life, detailing the beginnings of womankind, mankind, faery kind, dragonkind and animalkind.

Chapter Seventeen                      The Final Frontier

The chapter opens with Hector walking through a thickening forest, on his way to visit someone named Zella. He finds her and they greet each other; Zella is delighted to see Hector after hundreds of years absence. The impossibly tall, impossibly beautiful creature is the last of the race of the mighty Tuatha Dé Danann. She senses Hector is a herald of the Golden Age and she asks him to tell her everything.
